The negative effect of soft drink consumption on our health

Soft drink consumption and its impact on human health is a highly controversial issue. Being a key contributor to obesity, excessive consumption of soft drinks is closely associated to severe health conditions such as heart attacks, cancer and strokes.

Obesity is one of the most evident and immediate effects of soft drinks consumption. People who consume more than one 12-ounce can of soft drink per day are more likely to gain up to 15 pounds on average per year. High intake of soft drinks is equal to excessive consumption of sugar in the form of fructose corn syrup that is contained in high amounts in each can of soda. Every time we consume an extra can of soda, we actually drink an additional 30 percent of sugar that should have been consumed within a week instead of a day. As a result, our body weight rises and we suffer from high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, along with numerous metabolic abnormalities.

Type 2 diabetes is also related to soft drink consumption. According to experimental and scientific evidence from a study that was performed between 1991 and 1999 by Harvard School of Public Health, women who consumed one or more soft drinks per day were twice more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those who consumed less than one soft drink per day. When researchers replaced sugar-sweetened soft drinks with diet soft drinks in the study, the increased risk for type 2 diabetes was lowered. This suggested the positive correlation between soft drink consumption and type 2 diabetes.

Osteoporosis is another severe health condition to which soft drink consumption contributes significantly. Because of the excessive consumption of soft drinks, calcium levels in the blood are lowered, while phosphate levels are increased. This leads calcium to be pulled out of the bones and consequently a deficiency of vitamin K leads to osteoporosis. Soft drinks contain high amounts of phosphate, but no calcium at all.

Perhaps the most consistent finding in scientific experiments is the association between soft drink consumption and increased energy consumption. When we excessively consume soft drinks, the levels of energy increase in our body. This happens because our body needs extra energy from other foods for the energy it consumes in soft drinks. However, as added sugars decrease satiety and we don’t feel hungry, we simply calibrate our levels of sweetness in our preferences for other foods, thus, ultimately increasing the intake of sugar and total energy.

Soft drink consumption is also the culprit for increased levels of both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. According to a 10-week study, people who consumed sugar-sweetened soft drinks over the experiment exhibited an increase in the levels of their blood pressure, whereas people who consumed artificially sweetened beverages demonstrated a decrease in blood pressure. Besides, another study suggested a positive correlation between soft drink consumption and hypertension.

Soft drink consumption is also positively associated to other health problems such as urinary or kidney stones, yet to a certain extent and provided that risk factors such as calcium and potassium are controlled. It is also related to dental caries as a result of the high intake of added sugars. Regardless of all above mentioned effects, soft drink consumption is responsible for a variety of health related issues.  According to an experimental study conducted by Harvard, people who are totally healthy, but consume at least one soft drink per day are likely to develop within four years a 25% increased risk of high triglyceride levels, a 31% increased likelihood

Revealed The Quick And Easy Way To Get Beautiful Teeth

During older times the patients who lost their teeth would have to put up with dentures or bridges to seal the gaps. Sometimes these appliances would become loose and make it tricky to eat or speak. They can not do anything to put off bone loss in the gap where a tooth was present once as they have been placed above the gum line and can not help the other parts of the jaw. There is an advanced solution now. The dental implants could restore a few fallen teeth to make a stable replacement along the jaw and gum line.

Dental implants are being used for nearly 20 years now and the first implant cases are still enjoying the benefit of the method. These replacements hold on to the jawbone because of which they do not loosen up like dentures. They also do not affect the healthy teeth surrounding them in a negative way, like bridges can. These dental implants are a lifetime solution for the patients as they allow them to lead a great lifestyle over a long time.

Numerous factors might cause the loss of teeth. Your teeth might have been removed because of gum disease. Tooth decay or root canal failure could be faced by you. Few people might have lost their tooth in a crash like a straight shot to the mouth. Inborn faults could be a cause of tooth loss in some people. Dental implants are supportive irrespective of the reasons for your tooth loss.

Dental implants can be performed on people of all ages. This procedure can be followed to restore one or more teeth. They might be used to fasten a stable bridge without the concern of rotting of the other teeth that would make the bridge unstable. Like bridges and dentures that usually require a replacement in every 7 to 15 years the dental implants do not require replacement. The dental implants are regarded as a lasting fitting in the mouth which might be everlasting.

The dental implants have three divisions. Titanium implant is the first part and it combines with the jawbone. The next is abutment that fits on the upper portion of the implant to make space for the crown to hold to. The last section is the crown that is created to seem like the rest of the teeth for a stable natural look. The dental implant is regarded as completed after all the three parts are placed correctly.

The procedure starts with the placement of the implant into the open gap. This method is mostly completed in one sitting at the clinic of the dentist or oral surgeon. A period known as osseointegration takes place after the implant is done. Through this phase the implant mixes with the jawbone to turn into an everlasting fitting in the mouth. Osseointegration usually takes anywhere from three to six months to complete and at that time, the rest of the implantation process can be done.

In some exceptional instances osseointegration can be unsuccessful. Unsuccessfulness is opportunely an exception rather than becoming the rule. Dental implants in the lower jawbone are profitable in 95% of the patients. Implants placed in the upper jawbone are only 90% fruitful due to the less mass in the upper bone. As the osseointegration might not do work as thought the dentists would caution the patients of the possible risks before starting the process.

A temporary crown can be placed on top after the osseointegration is over. This impermanent placement would permit the gum to grow naturally around the false tooth before an everlasting crown is fitted. Once the gum has fully developed in the area, the permanent crown can be affixed and the dental implant is considered completed.

The dental implants have assisted the patients who have lost teeth to lead a lively lifestyle. The implants would never get loose like dentures not will they initiate bone loss in the affected area. The dental implants do not negatively damage the remaining teeth like the dental bridges. The people have got a sweet and healthier smile because of dental implants.

Important Must-Eat foods for People active in sports

Being a sports person is no easy task and often lack of good food or lack of knowledge leads to health issues. Here i came across an amazing must eat foods for sports people -

1. Whole grains-whole grain food such as cereal, bagels, pasta, and bread give good,long-lasting energy to the whole body. As the most important food group, athletes should eat many whole grain carbohydrates before an event.

2. Peanut butter-peanut butter is a good source of protein and essential fats, and it is easy to carry and eat on the go. Other protein sources will work as well, such as lean meat or dairy; the important thing is to get adequate protein before and after a work out. Protein helps the body in maintaining aerobic metabolism instead of anaerobic metabolism, which prevents the body from taking protein from lean tissue. Adequate protein speeds recovery and helps in actual performance situations.

3. Fresh fruits and Vegetables-fresh produce is a great way to get vitamins and minerals that help the body function as normal. They are usually fat-free and contain lots of energy for the body to use during exercise. Some fruits, such as bananas, contain potassium, a mineral that regulates water levels in the body and stabilizes muscle contraction. Low potassium levels can lead to muscle cramps and fatigue, so eating potassium-rich foods is a good idea. However, it is important to regulate potassium intake, because too much too quickly can lead to a heart attack. Athletes should take in 435 milligrams of potassium for every hour they exercise. While potassium does not aid in actual performance, it speeds recovery and should be considered as one of the most important supplements to an exercise program.

Another benefit of fruits and vegetables is iron. Chick peas, spinach, asparagus, broccoli, apricots, and figs are all good sources of iron, a nutrient that prevents fatigue, headaches, lack of stamina, and boosts the immune system. Athletes are generally at risk for anemia, having too little iron in the blood, because of the amount iron used in exercise. Recommended daily intakes are 6-11 milligrams, a number easily attained by eating leafy green vegetables or foods rich in vitamin C.

4. Calcium-Rich Foods-foods such as cheese, yogurt, and milk contain necessary calcium, which creates strong bones and protects athletes from injury. These dairy products are also a good source of protein, but they should be eaten well before an event, as they take some time to process. If the body does not tolerate dairy well, supplements should be included to ensure that athletes receive the recommended daily intake of 1000 milligrams. As an example, a cup of skim milk provides about 300 milligrams of calcium.

5. Fiber-Rich Foods-Fiber is the nutritional component that keeps athletes full and regulates the digestive tract. Many of the foods already mentioned include fiber, but it is important for coaches to know which foods help athletes regulate fiber levels. Examples of fiber-rich foods include whole grains, apples, berries, almonds, and legumes. A simple way to determine the necessary amount of fiber is to add 5 to the athlete’s age. For example, a 10-year-old athlete needs about 15 grams of fiber daily. After the age of 15, athletes need 20-25 grams of fiber a day.

Bye Bye Acne, Hello Clear Skin

Sometimes its very discouraging when you try so hard to obtain a skin free of acne. You end up trying all sorts of techniques but still no use. Well by keeping to the basics you can really reinvent your lost skin :) . Here are 3 of the most basic ways in which you can feel much better and confident.

Firstly, avoid touching your hands to your face / acne infected area. Reason being hands are most use-full part of our body and zillions of bacteria find their way onto your hand in some way or the other :) . For example – shaking hands, opening / closing the washroom doors etc. So the less you touch the less chances of acne break-out.

Secondly, don’t allow your pores to get clogged by using Oily Products like your cosmetic creams. You may look better for some time but do know that these creams create a layer around your skin thereby clogging your pores and accumulating dirt particles, so for a short look you are sacrificing your face :) . Reduce the number of times you apply these products and allow your skin to breathe free and stay clear of acne.

Last but not the least have a good understanding of what you eat. Eating junk foods once a while is fine but once those get included in your diet you are asking for trouble with your skin. Mostly acne breakouts happen due to fat – containing and other unhealthy foods if taken in excess. Start eating healthy-foods and take lots of water so that unwanted toxins in your system get flushed out resulting in a shiny clear skin.

These are the very basic of all things that you should start doing if you find yourself unable to get rid of acne.
For more information on treating acne refer to my previous articleKilling Acne – Taking the Natural Route to Healthy Skin
